Philippine Airlines President and COO Stanley Ng said on Wednesday he was not that worried about competition as United Airlines announced it would launch its direct Manila to San Francisco flights in October, and in turn, become a direct competitor of the flag carrier.
"For me personally, I'm not that worried. In the first place, I always tell my team...Anything that's a good business model, anyone can come in and copy or do exactly the same. But it's really the details and how you execute, and how you differentiate yourself from your competitor that's really going to make you successful," he said. "Having said that, we've been trying to improve our products... all our planes, we're gonna have a program to refurbish. We're ordering new planes. We're gonna have a CRM system as well, which will start next week. So we will have a better view of what our customers need and want," he added. https://news.abscbn.com/video/business/08/09/23/pals-stanley-ng-not-that-worried-about-united-airlines |
Lost faith in PR already.
I do hope they improve. Expensive flights, sub-par hard products. They have to improve by leaps and bounds. |
Even us who are loyal PR customers, my parents who are both premier elite members are not happy with the service. Customer services are not good. I had a flight from Davao to Manila i almost fell from my seat because the seat is not properly attached. I hope they awaken to the realities at hand. Consistency and Excellent service is key to success of their plans. |
Whilst PR never had the best hard product 2000’s onwards, I cannot imagine how a seat can be released for flight with it “not being properly attached”. Maybe its the cushions? I have personally avoided PR the past couple of years, mainly due to their schedule unreliability and subpar cabin amenities. The B777s especially the 1st Gen ones look well worn and tired, considering how much they are charging for them transpc. The A320 and A321 CEOs are no better than those from competing budget carriers either, so charging twice the price on the same sector cannot be justified. |

The cushion was not properly attached. It slid. My face got planted to front seat. It was an A320 service to Manila. My parents who are both premier elite members wasn't happy with the customer service experience, we had a medical emergency on my 92 year old grandmother, they had to rebook the flight until my grandmother's health become stable. The reasons they gave was that it wasn't my grandmother who will take the flight, so they didn't wave the fees, my grandmother has aortic aneurysm and pneumonia which hit her twice on the same month. So they had to rebook and rebook. There's no option to keep the booking open. My dad asked the agent what if you're on my shoes what would you do? Will i still push through my flight and leave my mother in law on a 50/50 situation. They had thoroughly explained that her BP and heart rate was so unstable that time. Until i told my dad to demand a supervisory call to get things done. Sometimes we have to be more considerate and more emphatic on your valuable mabuhay milers. Improve on the service, product offerings, because that's how you can make positive results, higher revenues. Good service and excellent products, consistency will make a difference. As their tagline says, The heart of the Filipino, they should live to that. |
Just sharing my experience with Etihad. I booked my parents for a roundtrip ticket to Spain way back in 2018 for travel on April 2019. My maternal grandmother suddenly passed away February 2019. I called up EY office and asked for a rebooking. They waived the rebooking fee for my mom but charged me the fare difference for the new dates. They didn’t waived my dad’s, so I paid up the rebooking fee plus the fare diff. Come June of 2019, my mom was suddenly diagnosed with CA and had to cancel the trip totally since she needs to get treated right away. I called up Etihad again and ask if are we able to have our tickets refunded for medical purposes. They declined my request since the original ticket I bought was a promo fare and it was non refundable. I tried asking for consideration since it was a medical situation and I already have a med certificate stating my mom’s condition. They firmly declined/rejected since the ticket was originally a non refundable one and no consideration is made for medical situation. After that experience and personally trying EY’s service, I promised myself not to take any EY flights even if it’s the cheapest fare available. |

Philippine Airlines (PAL), the country's flag carrier, is planning to make investments in fleet expansion and service enhancements following an impressive financial performance in the second quarter of 2023.
The company reported on Friday a net income of US$ 250 million (P13.6 billion) and an operating income of US$ 314 million (P17.4 billion) for the initial half of the year. https://www.philstar.com/business/2023/08/11/2287890/pal-amplify-fleet-services-investments-amid-q2-net-income-growth |
First time to see an A330 to BNE. Is this a one-off flight, or are they up-gauging this route? |

Looks like just a one-off flight probably because of the cancellation of the prior flight? |

PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said the flag carrier would talk to European regulators soon to pitch its plan to fly to the continent.
PAL is assessing its opportunities to launch direct flights to European cities, particularly Paris. Stanley Ng, president and chief operating officer of the flag carrier, said on Thursday in an event in Pasay they were “actively looking for a destination in Europe.” “Italy is one of the top countries in mind,” Ng said. https://www.philstar.com/business/2023/08/18/2289381/pal-launch-european-flights-2025 https://business.inquirer.net/416606/pal-eyes-direct-flights-to-europe-by-2025 |

PAL can order both A359/A339 and 787 after all like QF did to replace the A330 fleet

The replacement of A333 aircraft is clear even from Qantas perspective, what more from the flag carrier. In fact if you check other legacy carriers, they are heading the B787 way.

Same with China Airlines. A mix of the 787-9 and 787-10 for their A330-300 replacement. |

I noticed a trend of airlines going the A350 - 787 direction for widebodies.
