Re: 5J

PAL couldn’t even consider the 777X because 2028 was the earliest delivery date Boeing could offer. I heard they tried to offer a modified 787-10 but didn’t have the legs and/or capacity for ultra-long haul routes they’re currently servicing.

Haven't you also heard about the supposedly 8-8 Boeing offer in 2018 between the -9 and -10 envisioned by the cargo master now revenue mogul? Eurest was side lighting this episode two years ago. Padaplis-daplis na tsismis which is in fact true. This came on spotlight when new management honcho practically echoes what he said after c11 without elaborating further. If you read between the lines you can actually see what they are talking about. Underbelly. The often most neglected question is what plane is good at it.

I would have reckon the -10 to be ME, SIN, BKK, HKG bound and the -9 MEL, SYD, AKL, NRT/HAN,ICN, HNL, YVR, SEA, LAX, SFO bound. But that was pre c11. The cargo guy is back at PAL now. Would his influence on fleet planning also comeback? Abangan.

Re: PAL

I heard rumors that PAL is considering to add more A350-900s. I am just not sure these are the 4 LH A359s or if they are planning to put in a totally new order. Also head that chances of A330N is quite slim. If these are true, then we would see another A350 - 787 widebody tandem.

Re: PAL

Just like Qantas with A350-787 widebody fleet in the coming years

That additional might come from Lufthansa or the proposed new production standard A359 from Airbus

Any news if PAL will switch to CFM in their remaining A321neo orders? it is still deferred until 2025 or 2026

Here is what I said last month

What is more interesting is Airbus offer to PAL to add 10 row cabin of the A359 for US west coast operations instead of the 9 abreast A339, taking it away from the B789, should its fleet planners be persuaded. After all they already have it on the 35k.
PAL existing 359s are 278t (WV016) variant. The Airbus new offer is the new HGW 283t frames recently certified in July 13. 2023, but with 10 rows and between 330-385 seats. The seating configuration is listed as follows

If PAL goes the 359 way instead of the 789, we already know how many seats they would have, 330 for west coast, and 380 for middle east.

P&W will have an even better engine beginning 2025 for NEO to arrest decline of market share. What they are doing now is retrofitting the old.

Re: PAL

And after Indian carriers Air India and IndiGo all went for the CFM LEAP to power more than 500 NEOs combined, P&W must have really taken a big hit.

If Indigo Partners starts ordering the MAX, rest assured the next CEB plane would be a Boeing.

A lot of noise that they are going for the MAX 8 and 10. However, the 10 is still not yet certified. So lets see.

What are PAL’s new routes? You recently launched non-stop flights from Manila-Perth. Are there new destinations on the horizon? Domestic destinations?

“Europe is an aspirational destination. Previously, we had Manila-London but that was not so profitable so that route has been terminated. We are currently in talks with possible new partners to look into new European destinations and ensure they are profitable and sustainable. In today’s landscape, opening European destinations is a plus since it will make connectivity faster and stimulate trade between the Philippines and European countries.

Travelers have noticed that PAL charges more compared to other airlines and yet the planes are old. What are PAL’s plans to upgrade its planes?

“We will reconfigure and refurbish our planes, change the seats, and add tv sets on board for in-flight entertainment.”

What is your biggest headache now that you’re the president and COO?

“Aside from the supply chain issue, I want to change the mindset of the people. My management style is to push them beyond their comfort zone because that is the growth zone. However, a lot of people feel that just because it works, it’s ok. They prefer the status quo instead of embracing new methods and new technologies. In every town hall meeting, I remind them to be more open to change and explore new things.”

I hope this will include the ME A330s. Its about time PAL also should have a more consistent product.

I’m not sure how legitimate the information I got. Apparently Capt Stan and Lucio Tan III (Hunhun) has a falling out and Capt Stan is about to be kicked out from his current position? Has anyone heard of this? I do hope it’s not true.
