Regarding the eight B787-9 they could also be for CI as they have been planning to firm their option last May, they already have commited to 16 B789 as replacement for the A330-300 also won't be surprised if they will used GE Engines.

Also with regards to Stanley statement about the Airbus A330-900neo, A350-900, and Boeing 787-9. They could be still in their prilimenary stage or he hasnt't yet decided which to pick yet and announcement will be made in next year Singapore Air Show! Although  its best to wait and see from Day 2 of the Paris Air Show?

The options of China Airlines might be changed to 787-10

"The eight additional aircraft will raise the airline’s 787 commitment to 24 aircraft, all to be delivered by 2028. The orders may also be converted to the higher capacity 787-10 model based on demand developments"

https://www.businesstraveller.com/business-travel/2023/05/11/china-airlines-confirms-more-787-9-orders/

PAL can sign any agreements with Boeing on PAS and firm it in Q4 this year or on Singapore Airshow in Q1 2024 just like Cebu Pacific did when they signed an agreement with AIB during PAS 2019 and firmed it in November that year.

Singapore Airshow is for the Asian market like PAL

For the A320neo the undisclosed order was made last May 3, days before the A35K MOU announcement

It can be for PAL or not

Airbus is not putting it on their order and delivery sheet unless it's a firm order

Let's see for Day 2 Airbus has only 1 announcement while Boeing will have 2 could be a mix of both B737 MAX and B787 Dreamliner Order or both could be for the Dreamliners.

Boeing and China Airlines announce an order for eight 787-9 Dreamliners at the Paris Air Show. This firm order follows the airline's first-ever order for 16 787-9s announced last year.

The 8 789s don't belong to PAL

Boeing will NOT PUT it in their order and delivery sheet unless it is FIRM

Not surprised, although their is still a second announcement later from Boeing will just have to wait for that. But won't be surprised if it’s for the 737 MAX.

As for the A320neo its more likely the lessors will reveal it, rather then the manufacturer like the Salam Air with three A330neo

the representatives today did clarify that the ten A330-300s in the fleet would be ripe for renewal soon, with their average age currently standing at 9.3 years. The airline said replacement options for these will be considered in the next three to four years.

I belived the 318 seats is a typo error, from the Airbus press release it mentions 380 as the capacity for PAL A350-1000 which is pretty dense assuming this is final considering Etihad A350-1000 has max capacity of 371-seats.

https://www.airbus.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2023-06-philippine-airlines-finalises-order-for-nine-a350-1000s

However I think the final configuration has yet to be finalized and will likely be revealed as the delivery for the first A35K closes probably by late-2024 to mid-2025.

Some news outlets are claiming that PAL ordered the ULR variant

A lot of info is coming out, we don't know who is right

But I think it will be A35K HGW like A359

Re: PAL

According to Airways Mag Tweets, PAL will retire 777s by 2025. They did also mention that its the ULR variant, same as the one of Qantas' project sunrise.

A350-1000 will also become the flagship of the widebody aircraft.

That means, the A35K will be the biggest in the PAL fleet. However, PAL still needs a Boeing. And that leaves us to one plane...

PAL still needs Boeing to balance the fleet and geopolitics stuff

787 is the candidate for it, the question is now when will they get it

AFIK the lease for newer PAL Boeing 777 won't expire until 2026-2027 respectively, although 7781 was WFU early due to C11. I don't think all will be leaving by 2025. More likely once all 9 A35K have been delivered or have reach a certain threshold number, around the mid-2020s. I also won't be surprised the options for +3 A35K will be activated around the late 2020s or early 2030s.

I also agree that PAL will still need Boeing, just not right now due to their backlogs with the B787.

The right wording for it is progressively retiring not retire by 2025 which is the wording used by some media outlets

Re: PAL

Chief executive Stanley Ng says the carrier is considering other changes to its fleet.

He states that the airline is “exploring options” to replace its A330-300s, of which it has 10, “in about three or four years’ time”.

The A350s will gradually replace Boeing 777-300ERs as they arrive over the course of 2025-27.

Ng says the addition of more A350s “makes sense”, and he is open to the possibility of A350 freighters, although he says the carrier is “quite new” to the concept of operating its own cargo aircraft.
