From another source, I read its the airport departure slot... they're giving PR a 2 A.M. or 4 A.M. departure slot which is not their preferred time. |

What airport would that be?

Sorry, I wasn't able to mention... its JED... |

That is not true. In fact Saudi regulators has approved the slot for 10:30pm departure from JED simultaneously with DMM and RUH since 2012. Unless they are updating it now for another time slot which I seriously doubt.
Consider the UAE, CEB has been seriously bidding for the next seven slots which PAL is reluctant to surrender. There will be a UAE talk in February next year. CAPA disclosed that UAE has asked for 14 more frequencies which is supported by CEB. CAPA suggested SHJ for 5J and I think they are also aiming for 2X DXB and and another slot for AUH. I recently had a talk with one of the Philippine negotiators who told me that they are not keen on expanding the bilaterals if no PH carriers would fly. With 5J wanting it, that changes everything and belies a PAL claim. I suspect this is a PR drama for PR. I would rather believe that is a flimsy excuse for not making an additional investment to the gulf. As senior PAL manager of the SMC group has said, they have the money to expand which the LT group doesn't currently have. And like what I said, the middle east strategy was well thought off, supported by fleeting requirements, most particularly addressed to Saudi regulators. All eight of them.

Sad to really see whats happening with PAL. JJB just cant accept the fact that they cant expand because they got no money to support an aggressive expansion embarked by the SMC group. So instead, they end up throwing the blame to SMC.
Well maybe for SMC, its like "say all you want, we have the money, you don't." |

The difference between PAL and PAL Express planes.
They are the same from the outside, except this one; By the way, this is the oldest and the most comfortable A320 in the Philippines. Guess why?

Those are the elder 320 of PAL that have the original mabuhay class seats. RP-C3221 and 3223.
I can identify if its a PAL plane or PALEx or a PAL plane operated by PALEx aside from the note "operated by air philippines corporation" |

Paragraph no.1 is the most unusual claim because 5J spend 2 years to get this slot to Doha, and never got a single flight because PAL said they will fly this route. In fact they did apply and abandon it, for compliance purposes. So this declaration of JJB might probably be waiver on PR to give 5J this slots. CAB non-use policy is still in effect. Sometimes I wonder why CAB plays along the PR dialogue? Answer, false. Paragraph 2 is false. Notwithstanding the President's claim. I have personal knowledge on this information. His lying through his teeth. Paragraph 3 is false. Everybody knows that. Non-operation would give 5J a landing slot. Paragraph 4 is false and full of bull crap. They should surrender DXB altogether and have CEB operate it. Unfortunately for them, they can no longer enter deals with Emirates for fear of losing their slots. Paragraph 5 is likewise false because CEB never got what they wanted. Therefore PAL still got the daily slots. Truth is, if RSA still runs PAL, we could have those destinations filled up by now and the rest of the monoclass A330 heading the middle east.

Speaking of 2P, I really hope PAL transfers more A320s to 2P... I think they are severely lacking aircraft right now... Too many flight delays and flight cancellations recently... |

Speaking of Saudi Arabia,
Saudia Airlines to increase flights to Manila Another reason to tell why JJB is lying through his teeth.

Its his way of admitting that they don't have money to support an aggressive expansion plan. In a very aggressive industry, I don't think a conservative approach would be the right strategy. RSA had the right plans and right strategy.
I would say RSA uses an "Art of War" strategy style. You would not know what his moves and intentions are until you see the results. And its funny that JJB claims there is no routes for all the aircraft, 5J is doing all to get the remaining unused slots of PAL. |
I also don't get it why JJB keeps insisting that SMC ordered too much jets from Airbus wherein it was LT himself who signed the agreement and RSA just stood witness. Pictures even showed Airbus reps, RSA, and LT holding the signed MOA.
JJB may have made PAL profitable way back through his conservative ways but in these present times, we can't be conservative in a very competitive environment. And guess what, according to the grapevine, labor problems are beginning to brew once again. |

This plane is gone for good. So all the old fleet from circa 90's (Oct.22, 1997) is heading for the bone yard. Its all Iberian from now on.
Adios!

At least those ex-IB jets got better interiors than those 97 era 340s. Heard that PAL may scrap out LHR as they are getting poor loads due to the aircraft being used which are those 340s. When they were using the 777s, they had good loads and now since LTG does not have money to buy new jets, they are sticking to the 340s which is now taking a toll. This true?

It's like everybody forgot about NAIA's newcomer, Oman Air and their inaugural flight last Dec. 2. It might be too early but they're already seeking for daily slots from their current thrice-a-week schedule.
Oman Air seeks daily Manila-Muscat flights Eyeing mainly Filipinos who live and work in Oman, Oman Air plans to increase the number of direct flights between Manila and Muscat to seven times a week from thrice weekly, an airline official told reporters in an interview Wednesday. The airline on Tuesday launched its inaugural Oman-Manila flight. "As we speak... His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidy, secretary general of the ministry of foreign affairs is currently holding various meetings with his counterpart and other agencies in the Philippines to push for that entitlement," Ritchie Tuano, Oman Air country manager for the Philippines, said in an interview in Makati City. That's interesting, as PAL is now hinting Paris as its next destination.

I actually find the seats of the legacy/old A340s more comfortable... in Y anyway... the seats on those ex-IB A340s are HARD... and mas masikip pa... |
i'm wondering if PAL will still proceed with opening CDG in the coming months. As we all know, JJB is not keen on opening EU flights but there was this IG post late-November with the Eiffer tower in it. Do you think CDG will come online soon?
Next year, KLO-JP flights will commence.mthere are 2 chartered NRT flight departing from KLO late this month. |
When I had an international flight last Thursday, I saw at least 10 different PAL planes parked at the Lufthansa Teknik hangar area. Majority looked like they are just parked there and not for some maintenance work.
