Flying double daily to Sydney on A321Neo is actually an increase of capacity from the present A330-300 service.

Runway Capacity

How does one determine Runway Capacity?
Complex calculations with too many variables. Assuming all navaid equipments are there together with rapid exits, one can actually make 60 movements (landing ad take-off) per hour. I remember NAIA having the most at 45 for 06-24 in 2012. It has since been reduced to 40 since 2017 at its peak. The consortium proponent plans to do it at 52 about 14% more, still way below the maximum.

PAL’s performance

I was surprised reading from the latest CAPA report that PR’s NorthAm isn’t really doing that well considering that LF is quite high. I always thought that its NorthAm ops is always profitable (lax going double daily for most months and sfo being double daily almost half the year; YYZ going monstop and soon JFK). According to the report, it’s biggest competition are north asian carriers (i’m guessing CA and MU, with both carriers offering double daily MNL flights and CA operating widebody during peak travel months)
It still is. In fact, it is where most of its profit comes from. Its just the norm that earnings are lesser these days due to increase competitions. And PAL is not alone in that dilemma.

Yes its a capacity increased as 2 daily A321neo represent
2, 352 weekly seats compared to a single daily A330 which  is only
2, 163 weekly seats a difference of 189 weekly seats.

Reardless if its a capacity increased once they start deploying it to MEL and SYD in place of there Tri-Class A330 people will compare the seats the Tri-Class A330 offer like the J class seats offering direct aisle on all seat. While the A321N has only for those seats in the aisle. Another feature the A321N lacked is W class section something the A321ceo have, but I guess PAL wasn't generating much revenue on those seats and decided not to have that option?  Not sure with how the A330 premium economy is performing in that market but it must be challenging  to feel those seats considering other premium airlines such as CX, SQ, QF, etc. also offer PE between AU and UK market. While in the Philippine market Only PR has PE option while QF there closes competitor operates only Two-class configured A330.

Nonetheless there are advantages in operateing the A321N instead of the A330 like better connection opportunity especially for passengers who are transiting between Australia and UK and business traveler who can go to MNL at morning and return in the night back to SYD. In the end all I can say is good look to PAL and whatever decision they  take and hope it will be beneficial to them.

CAPA can be a so-called aviation "think tank" but I find their reports sometimes too biased, more on against PAL and too pro Cebu Pacific. Really.

Pretty sure PAL isn't replacing all their widebody flights to SYD/MEL with the Neos, as you seem to imply. From what I understand, it's just to supplement their existing A330 frequencies.

According to Airlineroute: BKK will be the first destination to see the A321N will operate from 6 of June to July 1 and Hong kong from 22 of June to July 1 however its subject to changes.

From another aviation fourm someone did a dummy booking and stayted it will likely be Flight PR732 which depart MNL and return flight will be PR 732. Not sure with HKG flight  ?

Re: PAL A321Neo route network

Solblanc

So, the A330NEO is coming to town.

While I’m sure this aircraft will definitely have a place in the PAL fleet, shouldn’t PAL also worry about costs? They haven’t been profitable in a while, and they’re about to absorb a lot of new aircraft, not to mention that the 6 a350 options are still on the table.

Cebu Pacific, on the other hand, is showing a lot of discipline, cutting unprofitable routes and expanding only when necessary.

Oil prices are going up again, and this does not bode well for the industry.

For the Airbus A350-900 its likely a 1:1 replacement for the A340-300 which lets face is in-efficient due to being four engines, and increasingly un-realible with a number of maintenance issue rising, so IMHO PAL would be happy to get rid of those as soon as possible.

PAL Suspends Jeddah

PAL is suspending JED from September 19 right after the 2018 Hajj.  This route has been in the chopping block since two years ago and axing seems to be postponed twice. Now it seems for real.

it has been almost half a year now since GAP received its brand new Q400, any assesment on how are they doing so far basing on closure of Caticlan and from your previous prognosis sir? Have they started retiring their old frames already? CEB I believe has 2 old ATR's waiting for buyers...

frequency now is reduced to 2x a week now.
If this was a non performing route, why did it took them this long to cut it? Can't they do seasonal flights instead?
---------
Come winter schedule, MEL will increase to daily flights utilising the triclass 330. I guess the 777/350 would be deployed to sectors that the tri class used to operate.
