It looks like 10ab is here to stay.

Apparently net promoter scores show high customer satisfaction with the product but will evaluate in the next few years if adjustments are needed.

 Philippine Airlines president Richard Nuttall says the airline’s decision to fit the A350s with 10-abreast configuration is proving successful with customers.

“The 10-abreast is going very, very well,” he says. “Passengers love it, they also love the seat pitch.”

He stresses that the carrier operates 15h sectors with the jet, from Manila to New York, and has strong net promotor scores in the economy-class cabin.

“At the moment, we’re not particularly looking to change the configuration,” he says. “Obviously, we’ve got two or three years to see how the market develops, to see if we want to tweak it.”

Well, they could always try fielding it in SFO, for a start.

Fortunately, currently operating it in uncontested market is no brainer. Nuttall is also stuck with BOD decision configuring the first batch of 35k with 10ab. The second batches configuration however could change dramatically, starting next year.

Maybe something about the stake? It was discussed as a complication of the Oneworld entry and he said during the IATA press conference that it was something to be discussed.

I didn't quite realize this until now.

This article explains why the A330neo is not the right type for the PAL fleet and was vetoed after questions on whether it would be their next aircraft purchase; however, I did find it interesting that there is a different date in this article for the 2nd batch A35K deliveries. From Aviation Week

The airline, which took delivery of its first A350-1000 in December 2025, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for nine more of the variant on July 21, plus purchase rights for a further five. Deliveries are tentatively scheduled for 2032-34.

Either this is wrong, PAL published the wrong date, or the actual delivery date is fluid, especially being still an MOU, that it could still be finalized at a later date, which begs the question: maybe there are customers who might be deferring or are being convinced to defer?

Philippine Airlines has accelerated aircraft changes on Manila – San Francisco route. Planned service entry of A350-1000 aircraft on this route from 07AUG26, operating on 3 of 6-7 weekly flights, remains unchanged.

Planned all-A350 service, previously scheduled from 01NOV26, will now move forward to 15SEP26.

Lets see then if this statement still holds by the last quarter of this year. Clearly, PR is utterly gobbled up by UA. They hardly could'nt even sustain a daily flight to SFO nowadays.

They need those to be upgraded to A35K because a 77W and some A330s will expire its lease in the coming months

Thats why some 77Ws are also assigned to routes where the A330 operatws usually

The Philippine aviation market has been getting more interesting every year. It'll be exciting to see how the new aircraft improve long-haul routes and passenger comfort, especially if more fleet announcements follow soon. Good day. Do you know if RP-C9918 (A321) is retrofitted already? I saw it on livestream today taking off with a protruding circular like (antenna?) mounted near the aft of the plane. I see that on A321s with IFEs. RP-C9918 was also on maintenance for some time and today was its first flight as PR 507. I was viewing the livestream of PAL's 3rd A350-1000's arrival when RP-C9918 took off just before RP-C3512's arrival. Thanks

Yes that youtube channel. There was an A321 that took off (RP-C9918) just before RP-C3512 landed. It was clear enough to see the protruding antenna.
