Reuters is reporting it.

I’m a little disappointed that they didn’t go for the 787-9

But with this order, seems like they’re expecting that NMIA won’t open anytime soon if they’re going for the largest variants in each family, maximizing their portfolio of NAIA slots

Agree with you on all points. They're maximizing range and capacity more than anything.  Hopefully the new A350-1000s would be in a less dense configuration.

Though if this is true, is the A350-900 out? Still seems possible to order 2-4 more aircraft and balance out the type or else get some B787-9s. Maybe they'll announce something else in the near future though?

Otherwise, it seems like the A359s are like orphan children. Unless they want to use them to make a go at LHR again?

It is. When they were ordered back in 2016 they were supposed to fly East Coast. That was their mission. It still is. Then project sunrise came in 2023 (322t) which provided massive range boost to the 35k program. East Coast is no longer the realm of the 359. Suddenly, the 308t 35k offered in 2019 is no longer the same plane offered in 2024. Similarly, the 78J offered in 2019 is no longer the same jet offered in 2024. It now has become a truly transpac plane.

The question now is if PAL will change the configuration of the additional A35K orders

So what will happen to the 2 remaining A359s now? Are they being phased out in favor of more A35Ks? Seems to me the chances of getting back those 4 leased to LH are being slim.

MH already received its 19th 737max

Fast production for Boeing planes, I guess PAL will receive its order with a good timeline.

I wonder if PAL will also consider the 737 Max for their narrow bodies...

they have 13 more 321neos on order.

given the Max assumption - perhaps for 2P

Would the B737 Max bring any more value than the A321, other than price? I guess it would be a good shorthaul workhorse.

Yes, I mean for 2P to replace those aging A320. Most of the A321 if not all are for mainline PR.

I don't expect 2P to shift to Boeing narrows. Especially if 2P wants to adapt a "low-cost" strategy for their domestic routes. And, it may not sit well with the domestic Filo passengers. Especially with the general Pinoy impression that:
Airbus A320 = safe and new
Boeing 737 = unsafe and old

Re: PAL

Solblanc

While the A32X series is ideal, it's definitely not a done deal. Delivery slots may play a key role here.

That being said, both the NEO and MAX are suffering from horrible reliability thanks to their engines. PAL did the right thing in waiting for the technology to stabilize before committing to any more new narrowbodies.

2P doesn't need the NEO or MAX technology. They are fine with the CEO. Cheap and reliable.

I wouldn’t really call 2P’s A320s as old. They’re less than 20 years old. Sure the seats may be dated, but they work. You don’t need IFE on domestic flights. Also, those CFMS are more reliable than the NEOs.

agree.

how are the 32xneo problems vs E2 family?

they have the same engine systems but different family type?

The neo has the same problem as the E2. PW causes much damage to PAL and CEB income wise. Hindi lang nila sinabi publicly. Even Airbus demanded compensation for their faulty GTF engines.
