If PR does end up joining Oneworld, that does not necessarily mean it has to end its codeshares with SkyTeam and Star carriers, right? Cross-alliance codeshares are not unheard of (like the MH-SQ joint venture).

What I'm really interested to know though is if PR had a secret bid for Oneworld all this time, or if what they will announce is not yet Oneworld membership but rather a bid. Is it common for alliance members to go straight to membership without having a public bid first?

What if PR is indeed joining Oneworld, and that plane will be in a Oneworld livery, and that's why it hasn't been painted yet, to not spoil the surprise?

So if it's an MOU, it's not yet 100% clear, or it's all but confirmed and actually joining is just a formality? Can MOUs in joining an alliance fail or be withdrawn?

The press release sounds like American Airlines was a key sponsor for PAL's invitation.

In any case, congrats PAL. Hopefully some news on when membership will become effective but I have a feeling they have been working behind the scenes for months instead of just making an announcement and working from that point on. Hopefully, this means it will be months, rather than years away.

I hope the whole NAIA lounge situation will now up the case for a comparable 2,600 sqm+ Mabuhay Lounge at NAIA 3 that can host its new partners together. SMC/NNIC, are you listening?

It wouldn't surprise me if they had been working on it behind the scenes since at least Richard taking over last year. The fact that they announced all these Oneworld partnerships over the past year or so can't be a coincidence: it was laying the groundwork.
