I read a document about the ongoing expansion of the Passenger Terminal Building (PTB) at Davao International Airport. It says that the current terminal, which was designed for 4 million passengers a year, will be able to handle up to 12 million passengers each year after the expansion. It also says the expanded extension terminal can process around 700 passengers (arriving and departing combined) every hour. This is very good news, but I would like to ask a few simple questions to better understand how the numbers were calculated: If the extension terminal can handle 700 passengers per hour, and if it operates all day and all night (24/7), that equals about 6.1 million passengers per year. If we add the current terminal’s 4 million passenger capacity, the total is around 10.1 million—still lower than the 12 million mentioned. Was the 12 million number based on future upgrades, better operations, or is it a target for the long term? The document says only one more jet bridge will be added, making five in total. This seems small for an airport planning to serve 12 million people a year—unless there will be more remote parking areas for planes or another setup for boarding. Are there plans for more gates or apron (ramp) space now or in the future? The current ramp can handle about 9 planes per hour, including both narrowbody and widebody aircraft. Was this taken into account when estimating the new passenger capacity? Also, was the old ramp area on the other side of the runway included in the plan? Reaching 12 million passengers a year would need smooth and fast airport operations, quick aircraft turnaround, and very few delays. Were these estimates based on actual simulations or on examples from other airports like Davao? I just want to better understand the plans and how the numbers were decided. 1. 12 million is the maximum number the expanded facility could handle effectively. It could handle more. My best explanation to that is look how NAIA terminal 3 which has capacity of 13 million passengers was handled in 2024. Guess how many passengers did they served? 26.2 million. 12.8 million domestic and 13.2 million international. That is a fact. That is not 13 million but 26.2 million. That is why you hear it is a crappy place now. Congested that is. Usually passenger numbers on terminals are calculated on usable square meters of additional space. DIA terminal expansion covers around 8,000 square meters. Technically, it can accommodate 8,000 passengers at any given time, engineering wise, without counting any offices, toilets, furniture's, fixtures, counters, technical and security equipment, open areas, among others. But that is not how terminal works. 2. There will be expansion of the ramp soon on the way to the south with 5 more bays. 3. Ramp occupancy is deceptive. No wonder you're confused. Don't count it with aircraft because A320 and A330 occupancy are both counted as one. 4. Airport planning is based on airport statistics. while statistics are not the accurate gauge for the future, it defines the least capacity the airport could generate traffic based on proposed projections.

Now I Know. re #2 when the expansion commences towards the south, it seems that the Tower and the Fire Station will be hit by the expansion. ![]() would the expansion be better if the cargo terminal be trasnferred nearer to the highway and place the ramp in the blue squared piece of land? just thinking...

According to plans only the ARFF station is to be relocated. Tower structure and CAAP office remains where they are. Also the plan expansion is linear to the taxiway, while the vacant portion beside the parking area are meant to be additional parking areas. I think cargo would eventually be moved further south as that is going to be part of PTB phase 3 and 4. What you have now is phase 2.

PAL is bringing in the first of its 18 retrofitted A321ceos by October.

I've read rumors that IndiGo is interested in launching MNL too, but I'm not sure from where or if those rumors even have merit. It wouldn't surprise me if PR also returns to India, probably when their new planes arrive.
P.S. to Arianespace, could you check with PLDT or the web server why the forum seems to be inaccessible to PLDT users? |

I am PLDT subscriber and I don't have problems accessing the site. Clear your internet cache. They might be full and interfering with your access.

On my end it's a mixed bag. Right now it is working, but over the past few weeks, it's been not working more often than it has. It might still be worth checking at least. I've gotten the issue regardless of location, and it's been on both PLDT and Smart.
