Re: PAL Revamp

Heard rumors of a certain "big bang" news from PAL within a week or two from today. Is this true?

I just read about the resignations in Philippine Star. How does this affect PAL? Good or bad?

Hope Arianespace could answer why all these resignations are happening and perhaps what to expect. AFAIK, GSM is not as well liked as JJB based on the grapevine.

Read in the news that the woman is now PAL board member. First she was stripped of her EVP position and made head of audit answering to Bong Tan. Now she is a board member, and she seems working closely with GSM. Gosh, didnt know Vivienne would shake everything up. Where is PAL headed now?

I did announce some of them pages back before it made headlines. Naturally Viv would sit in the board because it is a family corporation. Actually she is a check and balance to Bong. But hers is just one vote. Information from the inside is hard to come by these days because of the shakedown. New ones toe the line while the old guards where we get some valuable information were given early retirements.

GAP Flies Guam

Arianespace

When GAP refused to surrender their certificate to fly Guam in favor of APG CAB required them to fly the route within 6 months otherwise it would forfeit them. And so GAP fly beginning March.

I wonder what would happen to the GAP entitlements to the middle east as APG X is interested to fly there?

But will this use the PR2XXX flight number or will it be 2PXXX? Looks like 2P is adding more flights from Cebu and Davao hubs

I think this is already loaded in the GDS and their timetable. GAP will receive the final 2 Q400NG in November and December and these are CEB and DVO hubs bound. So that explains new and additional flights.

Re: Lucio Tan Jr. Replaces GSM as president of PAL

It makes sense to me that it reverts to the Tan family, as it is the holding company. GSM remains CEO of Philippine Airlines Inc., which is the "actual" airline. My impression is that this would give GSM some insulation from Vivienne.

You must understand that PAL Holdings is a corporate vehicle while PAL Inc is the airline itself. GSM just want to work with the airline, not the corporation. Your impression is intriguing but has semblance of truth. You should know something by deriving that analogy?

Re: Lucio Tan Jr. Replaces GSM as president of PAL

I can only infer; the timing was just telling. Vivienne joining the board, GSM presenting to the board his turnaround plan, then resigning from the PAL Holdings only to be replaced by Bong.

Industry hubbub

Eurest
In reply to this post by Unbreakable
Greetings, just wanted to share and ask a few things from what I've heard

As per PR A350-1000 (the new wv equal to current A359 range) vs 777-9 (issues scaring a lot, most worry 779 will be plagued like 787 and 737Max), told new PR mgt is taking a wait and see approach
ala B77W vs A346 decision
Will most likely not make a choice until both in service
Happy to lease late production B77W as interim if added lift necessary and immediate slots for 779 or A35K unattainable.
New capex unlikely until new investor

Told TG is mulling asking PH gov't for CRK/CEB 5th freedom for possible restart of A345/346 transpacific ops
Told old Japan interconnects too costly as well as Taiwan
Probably BKK-CRK/CEB-DEN/SFO/EWR as apparently ASA with Thailand has reciprocal 5th freedom?
Sounding out US DoT first, and then alliance partners (NH-UA jv may not likey, esp with SQ expanding US in already overcapacity Transpacific) before even sounding out PH gov
Might make for interesting options for PR for Europe with A333? 13+ hrs from BKK gets you more payload and Europe-BKK is always financially viable. MNL-BKK-CDG/ORY/MAN/AMS and Brexit may force PR to add something aside from LHR

As for AA to MNL, still interested. Apparently hired ex DL MNL manager last year that HA pirated and brought over to the mainland but had a non-compete so spent time at Amazon air before joining AA?
I wonder if this was how the rumors started. Have I shared this before?
Also current DFW-HKG is well...

Oh and 5J's 460pax A339? Imagine the headache the turn around loading those out during XMas
