Man, I was hoping this would not happen. I have a gut feeling this is partially the fault of scheduling cause a bunch of domestic flights from other cities on visayas and Mindanao aren't well timed for pr152/153 especially key destinations like kalibo Vatican bacolod and Iloilo. Plus there's still more flights to manila than cebu.

PAL posts loss in Q1 as oil prices rise


The operator of flag carrier Philippine Airlines swung to a loss in the first quarter of 2017 following a sharp increase in oil prices, whose fall has been a boon to the industry in recent years.

In a stock exchange filing, PAL Holdings Inc. said it posted a net loss of P1.13 billion from January to March this year, a reversal from the P2.9-billion profit announced in the same period in 2016.

....“Fuel costs increased by 52.9 percent due to the increase in average fuel price per barrel in 2017 to $76.15 from $58.16 in 2016 and higher fuel consumption as a result of the increase in number of flights,” PAL Holdings noted.

ouch!!
2 A340 on tech just now, one is stuck in lhr, other one in hkg.

Why did RSA purchased these ex-IB birds in lieu of the PR ones? Seems like the old PR birds were more reliable.

The ex-IB birds are technically newer than the PR ones. If they were more reliable, I don't think they'd have been reliable for much longer.

Either way, it's still a long way till the A350s arrive. At least a handful of those A340s will have to trudge on until 4Q next year.

Yikes! Do we know which frames? I flew rp-c3437 on pr 153 last Jan and rp-c3439 on my return flight pr 152 two weeks later

Any photos of the new cabin interior?

I saw a photo of the Premium Economy seat on their website which is in gray instead of brown which was first released and I think the gray looks much better.

Now, the 777's should get aisle access along with the upcoming A350's.

777 product will remain the same as the older ones even with the 2 new ones coming in. This is to avoid booking and seating complications when they have to switch planes around.

I'm guessing re-configuring of the 777s will be done much later on starting with RP-C7777

I just booked my W Premium Econ ticket HNL-MNL or PR101 for Nov.  Can confirm the new 330 aircraft configuration (well anybody can really) by looking at the seat map.   Y is 2-4-2 (woot woot) from the previous 3-3-3, W is 2-3-2  (from the previous 3-3-3) and J/C is 1-2-1. (Previously 0 i suppose).  So way to go.  Cant wait to sample the goods.

Mabuhay Mag foreword by Lucio Tan indicates the A340 is getting new seats so I dont know where all this talk about them being returned is coming from.  Could it be that they are just beginning the retro process and they are doing it during the lean season.  If you open up the Mabuhay Mag from the PAL website and turn to Lucios' welcome page, it is there fore everyone to see.  I believe this is the second time it has been mentioned.

Not sure why they just didnt reroute one of the two LAX 777s with a CEB stop in the interim.  But, whatever.

Some a340s have already been completed. more of a reupholstry just to align the 340s with the rest of the fleet color-wise. Makes them feel a bit fresher as well.

Any photos of the TV screens in Economy?

While I'm not really a fan of the colors on the seats they chose, the hard product is a definite improvement.

Still a long way to go before they can achieve 5 star status.
