Re: A330 Refurbishment

Tigz
Business seat on a window is perhaps the most comfortable you can have but being blocked on your convenience to the washroom is a pain. God knows you have a dead tired person on aisle that's sticks to the bed after dinner service. At least those in coach are normally half-awake and easy to pat the legs in case you need some relief. Is cost an issue for PAL to do herringbone?

PAL eyes Delta Airlines tie-up

Philippine Airlines (PAL) is proposing a codeshare agreement with Delta Air Lines, one of the “big three” carriers in the United States, in step with a plan to broaden its US operations.
PAL president Jaime Bautista said the Philippine flag carrier recently approached Delta, offering a tie-up that would leverage on PAL’s nonstop flights from Manila to the US and Delta’s massive domestic network.
“I think they are open (to the idea),” Bautista said in an interview. A Delta spokesperson did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Possible PR and DL partnership

This should be interesting. Service-wise, they are not at par. Its not also a SkyTeam member. The only airline exception was Virgin, all because they happen to own substantial minority shares. And the latest buzz circulating is that Delta would soon fly US direct on A350, possibly via SEA. Its not confirmed yet but according to some industry sources when the plane arrives it should be a go, reckoning perhaps in 2018. So I think its no brainier to negotiate joint venture with them like the ones they have with ANA as their own A350 would also double flights there by 2020.

Re: Possible PR and DL partnership

Solblanc

There's another airline that would make a perfect JV partner for PAL - Alaska Air. Alaska does not discriminate, and their fortress hub at SEA is even more expansive than DL. They can also provide feed out of LAX with their smaller hub there, and with the AS/VX merger, SFO is also going to be able to provide good feed.

Theoretically, PR could send its A330s to SEA via NRT and ICN and give AS feed from North Asia as well.

Possible PR and DL partnership

The problem with that proposal is that while PAL can fill the plane to NRT and ICN from MNL, it will have a hard time securing the traffic across the big pond. Big airline DAL even has difficulty competing out of Tokyo and Seoul. I doubt very much if PAL would succeed. In fairness, they tried it though in 1996 and it did not run one season.

I guess they wanted to maintain the product consistency of the the other 6 777s while upgrading what they could.

the 350s should be all new though.

I see, didn't catch that PR call sign. So this is the pick-up flight of Digong. Wow, I believe this will be the first for PAL on this Southern Transpac route, in one of the most desolate locations of the ocean!

CNS ATM

CNS ATM will become fully operational by February of 2017.

Likewise, 3 more airport joined night rating capability from existing 15, with Legaspi, Dumaguete, and  Roxas approved for night flights this month. Caticlan was approved last month and its privately run so its not included in the lists.

About Clark, Subic, and Sangley

Arianespace

At the sidelines of the senate budget hearing lat week:

Off the record, this is how Senator Gordon and Sec. Art Tugade and co. argued the case for Sangley

Gordon: Why are you insisting on building an airport in Sangley? Hindi nyo mabebenta yan. I am suggesting that you make sangley a seaport not an airport. You already have an airport in Manila

Tugade: Its the future airport for Manila.

Gordon: Why not Subic or Clark? The airport is already there? Why not put money there?

Tugade: We are improving Clark and putting up the railway, but it can never replace Manila as the main gateway. What it does is complement Manila. It will never replace it. Sangley however can.

Gordon: But we are building railways there are we? Transport should be fast! That should solve your problem.

Tugade: Even our airlines wouldn't move to Clark with the railway if Sangley is available.

Gordon: Reclamation is a huge amount?

Tugade: Yes, But you must also understand that its nearer Manila. That's the point. Even Japan had difficulty convincing airlines to relocate to Narita. All of them wanted to land at Haneda. Its the same thing here.
Not exactly verbatim but that is how their conversation went.

So that will help decongest NAIA due to shifting day slots to night flights. new slots for  day time schedules, hopefully with international character will then be available.

Dipolog Airport

Arianespace

In reply to this post by dashalvin
If the old terminal building is gone then it should be. If its still there then probably next year.

For this airport the plan had to be revised because the light towers was designed with the old tarmac not with the expanded apron. By the way that apron is designed to work with three A321 so expect the bigger jet to fly there by next year. Nice isn't it?

When the ILS is installed the total value of this airport project should stand around 1.3 billion

As to your other question I have no idea.

Re: Dipolog Airport

Yes, the old terminal is already gone and the apron expansion is almost finished. Will they replace the control tower next year or it will stay as it is for the moment? I'm excited if chartered flights will come to reality as Mindanao name improves. Does nigh-rated airport means it has an ILS and apron lights for night operation?
