Re: A330 Refurbishment

Solblanc

I think it's safe to say that the product will be Vantage XL instead of plain vantage. Plain vantage has no value-added over the current Stelia equinox seats. Besides, the RGN link mentioned that it was vantage xl.

Now, if the reconfiguration will lead to the opening of routes such as akl or tlv, that would be very interesting indeed. Are we permitted overflight over the Middle East for tlv flights?

Nothing was really specified on the site regarding the exact configuration. I'm guessing that it would be reconfigured with 18 seats per plane since the existing A330s have a business class section with 18 seats also.

Any idea on whether the Economy section will also get reconfigured? Those seats are so cramped and I always try to avoid flying the A330 because of the ridiculous legroom

yup it is cramp indeed. It is more spacious in their A321 and A320. My dad complaint on his seat at 50C that his seat does not recline. My dad even said that it is one of the reason why RSA was kicked out

A330 Refurbishment

If PAL desires to be a five star airline, then they have to do re-configuration like a five star airline, and that would mean reversion to the old comfortable form of 2-4-2 like this one

PAL A330 Seatmap old

And with IFE that looks like this

The Ipad has been tested and was found wanting. It would have been nice if there was a charging port. But this one has none

Cathay Pacific is a five star airline and their A330 regional spells five star comfort and amenities. That is one reason its so easy to fly them.

I love the pre-RSA A320s more than any of the RSA-era 321/330. THe 320s just have so much more room

I thought the coach seats on the 80s A300 is much more luxurious than this. The photo tells me its an airline seat in its most spartan form. Is this how PAL intends to entice its patrons into buying the more expensive economy premium?

As far as I know CX replaced those seats long time ago due to mounting complaints. Poor ergonomics, only the cushion slides down and your lower body moves forward to give that recline position making your upper hip portion away from the rigid portion of the seat. It was supposed to solved the intrusion of the seat to passenger behind when you recline it. Almost pulled out my trip to Cathay but I asked to make sure the aircraft used have now the reclining seats installed.

PR's upcoming 77W's

This post was updated on .
Does anyone have any photos of the interior of the recently delivered 777? Saw one photo on Inquirer of the back of Economy, not sure if the seat is the Zodiac Z300 or Recaro CL3710. Looks like the Zodiac to me. And they went with the Panasonic ex3 IFE system.

Curious to know why they chose to have a standard basic business class design instead of one with direct aisle access? Weren't they in the process of choosing a business class with all aisle access?

Before I forget, is PAL management still interested in the 778/9? I remember RSA expressing his like of the aircraft. I guess we can see some orders after EIS?

Thanks for the photos. Cabin colors look too sterile. Just blue. Preferred the previous cabin colors.

Still baffled on why no all aisle access in business.

Possible PR and DL partnership

COCKTALES | PAL to build elevated walkway linking Terminals 1, 2

[...]
Bautista and Alvarez, according to the grapevine, proposed a special prorate agreement with the US carrier that would interline US-bound PAL passengers and cargo with Delta and, vice versa, for Philippine-bound passengers of Delta.

According to the Centre for Aviation, the Philippines is the largest Southeast Asian destination from the United States, accounting for approximately 35 percent of all Southeast Asia-US bookings.

Similar to the arrangement that PAL crafted with WestJet for Canadian destinations, the proposed SPA with Delta would allow PAL to expand and sell tickets to other onward US cities beyond San Francisco, Los Angeles, Honolulu and New York where the Philippine flag carrier currently flies.

The PAL proposal comes amid Delta's continued dismantling of its once-extensive Asia-Pacific network, including three flights a day to Manila, that Delta inherited in 2008 when it acquired Northwest Airlines.

I remember you posting a few pages back that PR is an a delimma if they would reconfigure the mono-class A330s as they were raking in good profit from them... is the delimma still there or will they finally push through with the reconfig?

These aren't fully lie flat beds isn't it? Otherwise how would one at window or middle get out if the neighbours are both stetched out. Not quite cozy the way I see it. Agree on the seat colours, way back then, PAL have some hues of light orange and light blues, quite refereshing I thought.

Re: PR's upcoming 77W's

The beds are fully flat. It's Zodiac Aura Lite, same as what TK uses.

Width-wise and comfort-wise, they're just as wide and comfortable as the Zodiac Cirrus of CX and the B/E Super Diamond of QR, based on my experience. The space allocation of each seat is actually quite generous, as long as you don't mind having seatmates.

Since I always get the window seat, aisle access is indeed an issue. When I flew TK, I stepped over my seatmate to get to the aisle by standing on the ottoman.

It's not a bad product. Emirates is using a similar configuration for their 777 business cabins.

A330 Refurbishment

They still are. And with China opening up again, there would be traffic explosion, as what is now happening in the CAB office for flights there. But with the new airline policy something has to be done about it. There will be reconfiguration of some but not all as there are shortage of bi-class fleet. More like missing the other two more orders that has been deferred. Like what I said previously, getting 2 frames  away from mono class would work wonders for operational efficiency of the bi-class as the middle east market takes more time to mature due to additional flights of the ME3 carrier to MNL. It is also a compromise for the charter and middle east market. If you must remember, all the mono variant are registered in Saudi Arabia to fly there, eight of them.
