Re: B787-10

Solblanc

If I were a salesperson for Airbus, I’d tempt PAL with a small lease of 4-8 A330NEOs that will help as extra lift while the other A330s are refurbished. Then watch PAL never make a decision on the 787s coz the NEOs are already there.

On the possibility of Embraers: I sure hope they get them! It can open a whole new regional operation from CRK and CEB

PR could definitely get A330neos to replace at least some of the A330ceos. The issue is that they don't have the range to reach the US nonstop while in service, especially with the cargo-heavy flights PAL does. They would work for Asia, the Middle East, and Australia, but for North America, it's not a good fit. What PAL should have done is order more A359s to replace the ones that went to Lufthansa, since the A35Ks are too big and they need something at the A359's size or even smaller. That's where 787s could come in. It's not like the A330neo and the 787 (or A350) can't co-exist: Virgin Atlantic has all three.

If they will spend money on aircraft, it should be useful on different scenarios. If they will be limited by the specs it will be another waste of opportunity to open new routes or revenue generator such as cargo.

Imagine buying a aircraft that have minimal difference with your current one and it will not bring any difference to your yearly profit aside from more passengers due to new cabins. Having more revenue generators per flight is much better in case of PAL having more cargo specially in Middle East and United States.

Having a dedicated cargo aircraft is not a bad idea specifically for China and Middle East but for United States it should be a one off aircraft that can hit two birds in one stone. The competition for PAL is getting tighter with Delta eyeing a comeback in Manila, they need additional channels or revenue aside from passengers.

For narrowbody order the most practical is a mix of embraer/A220 and A320neo for domestic and some international routes. As you can see Hunnu Air is operating E195 from Mongolia to Manila, Embraer/A220 can unlock more seasonal routes or routes that has a demand but not too much.

Turboprop operations in NAIA will be lessen too in the coming months and having a aircraft that can evade the ban is a good idea; but aside from evading the restrictions it can unlock new routes.

Another airline is also eyeing to replace their turboprop aircraft in their fleet

Sunlight? They've said that they've been eyeing jets, particularly the A220. I don't know if PR or 5J would ever consider getting either, but Sunlight might be a good option since they're trying to find their own niche. I'd actually love either PR or 5J to get either so they could either upgrade turboprop flights to jets (assuming they can be accommodated), or they could launch thin regional routes that may still have some demand.

Cebu Pacific is cited by Airline ratings as one of the safest low cost airline in the world in 2025 with exceptionally low incident rate brought by modern fleet, and an almost flawless onboard safety audit. Congratulations! Very much deserved.

Delta ordered 30 Boeing 787-10 for 2031 delivery

A peak of delivery times if PAL ordered in the next two years

They must have the new data already which showed them better than expected operating dynamics that would allow it to fly at least 14 hours or 7000nm of flight time.

Genuine question, here is a video of Air New Zealand’s seats which are the same as PAL. Is it just me or are they the same width? I mean, it seems like the difference, if anything, is negligible.

I've sat on those ANZ seats on the 789 and they're very comfortable for the 4 hour flight from AKL to SYD... even for me which I am on the heavier side...there is enough legroom and arm space...

According to the DND Procurement Monitoring Report:

The Department of National Defense, through the Philippine Air Force, is currently undertaking the procurement of a dedicated Presidential Aircraft, with an approved budget of Php 8.8 billion. The acquisition is being conducted under the Direct Contracting mode, and the project is classified as ongoing.

As noted in the report, the procurement process is presently awaiting the revised Decision Package from the Office of the Legal Adviser (OLA). This step is necessary to ensure compliance with all legal and procedural requirements before the project can move forward to contract finalization and award.

At this stage, no contract has been awarded, and the exact type of aircraft that will be selected for presidential use has not yet been determined.
