PR to JFK on MAR2015

You just have to love the people here. Advance information at your fingertips!

So they did not get the slots they want? I was expecting this to be AM MNL departure. Although midnight departure is also good. You'll be in NYC in the AM. Now, if they can get some business traffic at YVR. A J class bed is better in A340 than B737. Only CX offers better product here with 777W. But I'm not sure if CX has 5th freedom.

But would they be able to sell the YVR-JFK leg? I hope they can!

Sure they can. They still have the same limited 5th freedom rights granted to them while they were still flying LAS.

from what I heard, PR was requesting for midday/afternoon arrival and departure from JFK but this was denied... so they had to settle for the morning arrivals which will directly compete with CX (they have the same arrival time in JFK from YVR). Yes, CX has 5th freedom traffic rights on this sector.

Their marketing department has greatly improved. Lately, I noticed a 180 deg turn on their ads and marketing style. Kudos to them!

PAL buyout

And the delay keep on rolling for another week.

PAL deal delayed, again
The much awaited deal between tycoons Lucio Tan and Ramon Ang over the fate of Philippine Airlines will not happen today, after the camp of the former asked that scheduled meeting and agreement signing be postponed to next week.

The last minute postponement means that PAL’s stakeholders will again have to wait a little longer to know who will end up running the flag carrier.

Originally scheduled for today, the handshake between the two business groups would have given Tan about a week to come up with the cash—a little over $1 billion, we hear—to reassert control over the storied airline. (The deal with Ang two years ago gave San Miguel a 49-percent stake in PAL and management control, with Tan’s group particularly eager to get the latter back.)

Meanwhile, Ang—perhaps already exasperated by the back-and-forth, on-again-off-again talks—is reportedly willing to sell PAL back in return for “commensurate compensation.”

But since the ball is in Tan’s court, everyone will just have to wait and see what happens next.

Perhaps stakeholders should just think of it as delayed flight. It will happen sooner or later. But the ETD (estimated time of departure) remains fluid.

If I may add something, word is LTG is finding it difficult to raise a billion dollar cash and the underwriter bank has not approved the loans just yet. The buyout is finance by a loan. So this will be a loan over a loan. Ponzi?

How sad... why is LTG scrambling to get something that they could barely make profitable when they had control of it? They really should move on. They had way too many headaches while running the airline, and now they want to get it all back? Just because PAL is profitable now doesn't mean that it will remain profitable once old management gets it back. Especially if they start giving back free flights and upgrades to every tom, dick, and harry.

Plus, if this is really going to be financed by a loan... if I were a bank, I would totally not give LTG anything. And if LTG's own banks can't take this on by themselves, that is saying something.

Delayed again? Oh boy! If I had billions under my belt, id buy PAL and get all of you guys to be on my board. This is getting ridiculous. Hahah..

I think we can make PAL profitable too. The only thing we lack is the capital.

It was profitable for their company when they have it. In other words, had it not been milked too far it could have posted a decent profit.

No crazy businessman would want to take back a losing investment. If you follow that basic argument something should not be right on holding to PAL. Yet, despite losses we see a different picture.

PAL Expansion

JFk and the rest of the middle east expansion is supposed to start flight in October but due to the buyout contest it was postponed to March. Could the rest of the middle east expansion be postponed too?

I know something is planned to be launch in December but with 5J expediting their inaugural in JED next month could we be missing something?

They are completing the paperwork in the bank as we speak. An offer by LTG has to be made to SMC next week that is acceptable to them. If the offer is accepted by SMC then the bank writes the check. If SMC is not satisfied by LTG offer it will asked them to increase the price which are mutually acceptable. If LTG does not accept the price asked by SMC then SMC will submit a counter offer of their 51% based on the LTG valuation of the 49%.
