I know they are under part ANA ownership, but I don't see them joining Star Alliance. Singapore and Thai are already well-established members at this point. The most likely would still be Oneworld, especially when they only have Malaysia at the moment and PR already has ties to AA, as well as Richard's own ties. Oneworld is also the alliance they tried joining years ago. The main question then would be if that would mean ANA selling their stake, but then again ANA also owns a small stake in VN despite VN being in SkyTeam. |
I don’t think ANA having stake in PAL would matter where PR chooses to join. As long as PR is in black and their investment in PR yields a good result, then ANA should be fine whichever alliance should PR choose. |

The question is how will PR manage their codeshare agreement with ANA if they decide to go with OneWorld which includes their member JL?

Star alliance is notorious for just having so many members with overlapping networks. They let almost anybody in; if you join, though, you have to make award availability for all of their programs, and your lounges will be full of their frequent flyer elites. It’s the most expensive alliance to join. Nobody will stop PAL from joining, but PAL might struggle to keep up with what’s needed. |

There shouldn’t be any problem with it. CX codeshares with LH while being in Oneworld. On the other news, PR starts ORD not until Nov 9. I guess the fuel price made them push the launch to November. It leaves Manila in the afternoon and arrives ORD in the afternoon, leaves ORD evening time and arrives Manila in the morning. It will operate thrice a week, MWF with A359 eqt |

I too hope they eventually join Oneworld as it’s the ideal NA setup. Star Alliance is too big and Skyteam still seems like a patchwork for what PAL would ldeally need for their network in the United States.
With Oneworld, You got Alaska that aligns with Pacific Northwest and Hawaii, and American with the right hubs for PAL to connect the rest of the U.S.. Porter Airlines may join Oneworld too so that could be helpful with their existing partnership with Westjet and open up connections in downtown airports in Canada like Billy Bishop. British Airways for UK connections, Iberia for emerging Spanish traffic, Mediterranean destinations like Italy and other EU connections like Scandinavia, plus better cooperation with Qantas, Malaysia and a new potential connection with Sri Lankan for connecting flights within Asia and North America. There would be more reciprocity if PAL is in Oneworld. |

But NH and JL are both from the same country, they have a duopoly and have a large share over the local Japanese market, unlike the United States aviation market, so i was wondering if they would probably divide the codeshare agreements between the two JP carriers if PAL decides to join OW

Qatar cooperates with and invests in Virgin Australia while fellow Oneworld member Qantas has a joint venture with Emirates (they also terminated a joint venture with British Airways to cooperate with Emirates). That’s the same market. Alliances are not a jail or chain. No issue there. |
