Re: NMIA Update

SMC will have their ASM this coming Tuesday, I hope they give us substantial updates on NMIA by that time (though I honestly doubt). I believe there are questions being lined up about this

Well, it’s safe to say that NMIA is definitely not happening in this admin.

I could hazard a guess and say that NMIA is not happening in the next admin, either.

I wonder if NMIA would have been faster had SMC not won the NAIA privatization bidding.

RSA told Boo Chanco that there's an aircraft engine manufacturer who wants to set up a service facility in Bulacan Airport

Re: NMIA Update

San Miguel Corp. (SMC) may complete the first runway of its ₱735-billion New Manila International Airport ahead of its 2028 timeline, despite construction bottlenecks caused by supply shortages in Manila Bay.
Ramon S. Ang, SMC chairman and chief executive officer, assured shareholders during the firm’s annual meeting that the diversified conglomerate remains on track to deliver this portion of the Bulacan megaproject.
“We are on track to finish the first runway for 2028. In fact, it can even be earlier,” Ang said. “I believe the first runway will be ready by at least the second quarter of 2028. What will delay us a bit is the passenger terminal and the logistics center.”
Ang noted that the logistics center was originally slated for completion by 2025, but is now expected to wrap up by the end of 2026.
He explained that the facility requires about seven million cubic meters of fill sand and has been delayed due to a localized shortage resulting from competing Manila Bay reclamation projects. While the runway faced similar supply constraints, Ang emphasized that it remains insulated from long-term delays and will be operational by 2028.

A runway? By 2028? Groundbreaking.

Oh wait, they haven’t even done that yet.

If a runway is built by 2028, the earliest a proper passenger terminal (one that can actually deliver a good level of service, not some waiting shed like what they’re using in caticlan right now) can be operational would be 2034.

This won’t happen in the next admin. SMC’s NAIA concession might even expire before this airport is operational.

It can be earlier than 2028, RSA says the first runway is still under surcharge fill

RSA says a lot of things. He over promises and under delivers.

Don’t look at what he says. Look at what he does.

Also look at what he has done. None of his big-ticket projects of late have been on schedule. Delays here and there. Granted, it’s not totally his fault, but that doesn’t change the fact that you always have to verify what he says.

I'm really curious, when he said logistics center being completed by end-2026. Does he mean the land of the logistics center or the logistics center itself?

It’s June. You can see the drone shots of the site. In your opinion, what can realistically be built in that area over the next six months?

It sucks that the Supreme Court still hasn't dealt with the NAIA case, which seems to have left RSA hyping up one of the TWO runways (likely concrete runways) of all things....

Anyway, given SMC Infra's affinity for warehouse-style designs (MRT-7), I can definitely see a so-called logistics "center" being finished by New Year's Eve 2026 haha
